Since 2014, HavASole has distributed more than 95,000 pairs of shoes in 40+ cities.

THE MISSION


→ Founded by Rikki Mendias, whose mission is to provide marginalized populations with quality footwear to encourage healthier lifestyles.
→ Rikki's story is personal — he spent years in a shelter as a young boy, where his family couldn't afford shoes. When a former resident noticed holes in his sneakers and bought him two new pairs, it changed him.
→ In 2014, Rikki loaded his car with over 150 pairs of his own shoes and drove the streets until he found people who needed them — documenting each exchange with a before-and-after photo. The response on social media sparked a movement, & HavASole was born.
With Daytrip, this model is merged into a cultural event that focuses on
impact, creativity, and community.

STRUCTURE
→ A fresh pair of shoes isn't vanity - its agency: looking good fuels the confidence to take on the world, and when you carry yourself that way, the world meets you differently - giving every youth the power to step forward and own what's next.
→ The shoe is the vehicle, but the health impact is serious: inadequate footwear leads to infections calluses, and structural damage that limits mobility and access to resources
→ Two-day impact goal: 200 pairs distributed, 50+ donors receiving documentation of where their shoe ended up
→ Occupies the space between a charity event and a cultural community event — donors, youth recipients, and volunteers in one space building collective experience

THE EXCHANGE
→ Youth are signed in and received by Givers at the sneaker wall, who ask their size and preferences before leading them to a fitting chair
→ Givers pull multiple options and work through until something clicks– with youth's consent, a photo is taken of the shoe and returned to the original donor, closing the journey of a donated shoe
→ Youth are invited to step into the 360° camera booth for a 15–30 second video capture
→ Beyond the fitting: community resource booths, an NBA 2K tournament, food, and youth-focused activations

→ Donors check in their shoes, which are tagged with their name and contact info, with the option to include a personal photo for the recipient

→ Shoes are inspected, cleaned if needed, and staged on the sneaker wall — ready for their match

Who they are
→ Covenant House California is a nonprofit youth shelter providing sanctuary and wraparound support to young people experiencing homelessness and trafficking, ages 18–24.
→ Founded in Hollywood in 1988, CHC serves over 2,100 youth across six California counties.
→ Their doors are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and every service is free.
